Essa Academy - Everywhere Education

Essa Academy in Bolton is at the forefront of technology in education. Since 2009 they have moved away from textbooks and have gone completely digital with their learning. Today, with every student and member of staff owning an iPad they can share information and resources 24/7.
Using Lightspeed Systems Mobile Device Management (MDM) and Rocket Web Filtering, Essa are able to control and filter the devices on and off of the network and push out apps across the school with great ease.

In 2009 when the site was known as Hayward School, the school had dwindling numbers, declining test scores and was on the verge of being shut down for good. They applied for academy status in 2009 and after the application was approved, they knew they had to make a lot of changes to turn things around.

One of the first decisions that they made was to begin a 1:1 initiative, meaning that every student could access resources on the internet from any place at any time. They decided that students should have handheld devices to better engage in learning.

The next big challenge was discovering the best way to manage them and keep them safe. They were looking for the ability to deploy apps, to manage the devices and to make sure students were able to use them in a secure way, so after extensive research they decided that Lightspeed Systems Mobile Device Management (MDM) and Rocket Web Filtering was the best solution for them.  Abdul Chohan, Director at Essa Academy says “At the push of a button we are able to deploy apps to all the handheld devices, that for me really has changed things”.
